Learn Spanish in Guatemala

Turn your Spanish language holiday into a special cultural experience and learn Spanish in the probably most unique country in Central America! Guatemala is located south of the Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The lowlands in the northern part of the country, El Petén, as well as the narrow flat and fertile coastal belt at the Pacific Ocean, have a tropical climate and a rainforest. The highlands, with volcanoes are located in the centre of the country with heights of up to 4,200 m. This level is also the site of the cultural centre of Guatemala; Guatemala City, the capital with 2.5 million inhabitants and the largest city in the country is located here. Due to its location between 1300 and 1800 meters above sea level, a mild climate prevails in the inhabited areas of the highlands almost throughout the year. Daily temperatures between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius ensure optimum conditions for a relaxed Spanish learning environment. Highlights of a language holiday to Guatemala include the former capital of Antigua and the ancient Mayan city of Tikal.
Thanks to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the colonial city of Antigua has retained its charm. There many Spanish students and tourists meet in the numerous restaurants and bars. Antigua is also an ideal starting point for excursions to other parts of the country.
The ancient Mayan city of Tikal highlights the diverse historical past of Guatemala and impresses visitors with the excellent condition of the individual pyramids. Other places of interest you can visit during your language course are the Atitlán Lake with its panorama which is dominated by volcanoes, as well as the picturesque towns of Quetzaltenango or Chichicastenango with their colourful markets.
Approximately 60% of the population of Guatemala are descendants of the Maya, another 35% have a mixed background, and the rest of the population is of European or Asian descent or belongs to the descendants of escaped African slaves now living on the Caribbean coast. The varied landscape, the hospitality of the locals and the cultural attractions provide the ideal conditions for an exciting Spanish language holiday!
